New Delhi: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel will decide which countries’ troops will be allowed in the proposed international force in Gaza under US President Doland Trump’s peace plan.
Our security is in our hands: Netanyahu
Netanyahu told his cabinet that “our security is in our hands. Israel will decide which international forces are unacceptable to us.” He, however, said that the US supports Israel’s stance. However, it is not yet clear which Arab countries, or other countries, will commit to sending their troops. Meanwhile, the Trump administration has ruled out sending US troops. It is being said that this international force could include troops from Egypt, Indonesia, and Gulf Arab countries.
Israel controls all entry points into Gaza, which it has besieged since the cross-border attack on October 7, 2023, during the war against Hamas.
No place for Turkey: Netanyahu
According to a report, Netanyahu has opposed any role for Turkey in the Gaza force, following the strain in Israel-Turkey relations during the Gaza War. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has criticized Israel’s air and ground operations in Gaza.
Netanyahu stressed that Israel is independent in its security policies and rejected the idea that the US controls its policies. He described the relationship between Israel and the USA as a partnership.
What about Hamas?
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that this international force would include countries with which Israel is comfortable, but he did not comment specifically on Turkey. Rubio said that the future governance of Gaza would require consensus between Israel and partner countries, which would not include Hamas.
