He also emphasized the importance of de-escalating tensions with India(BHARAT). The Russian ambassador in Bangladesh said that the sooner this happens, the better.
He said that they are not interfering in the bilateral relations of the two countries, but they believe it would be wise to find a way to prevent tensions from escalating further. Relations should be based on mutual trust and confidence.
Regarding the elections in Bangladesh on February 12, 2026, he expressed hope that the voting will be held on time. Regarding sending election observers, the ambassador said that they are in contact with the Election Commission and are awaiting an official invitation from the commission.
‘The Situation In Bangladesh Is Very Tense’
Regarding the situation in Bangladesh, former minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury said, “The situation in Bangladesh is very tense, especially in the capital Dhaka and our other city Chittagong, because it is receiving patronage from the ruling government. They are helping or instigating some extremist parties and organizations to come out daily and spread anarchy. Therefore, the situation remains quite unstable, as the elections are approaching.”
He said that it seems they want to at least postpone the election schedule and maintain their power. Keeping this in mind, they are continuing their movement. They have some YouTubers and individuals who come onto online platforms and incite violence, and who are constantly being told to provoke people. In addition, they also have some extremist political parties like Hizb ut-Tahrir and the Jamaat-e-Islami student wing, Shibir. Therefore, they are continuously using these resources to create social instability in the country.
