The Epstein Files: Donald Trump’s photo re-uploaded while Melania Trump’s photo is included; 16 files were removed yesterday
New York prosecutors had previously objected to the photo, citing the potential risk of revealing the identities of victims.
New Delhi: The US Department of Justice (DOJ) has re-released a photo of President Doland Trump included in documents related to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Melania Trump’s photo is also included in the document. The department stated that the photo does not depict any of the victims in the Epstein case.
New York Prosecutors Had Previously Objected To The Photo
New York prosecutors had previously objected to the photo, citing the potential risk of revealing the identities of victims. As a precaution, this photo, along with 16 other files, was removed from the website yesterday, December 21. After an investigation revealed no such risk, the photo was re-released without any changes.
Earlier, CNN reported that several files related to Epstein were removed from the website, including this photo of Trump. Some other files contained incriminating photos and notes.
Opposition Accuses Government Of Trying To Protect Trump
Following the removal of the photo, Democratic leaders accused the government of trying to protect Trump. However, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanch clearly stated that the removal had nothing to do with Trump. He explained that victims’ rights groups had requested the removal of the photo so that a proper investigation could be conducted.
The Justice Department stated that it maintains complete transparency and only removes information required by law. The department is required to conceal the identities of victims, minors, and sensitive information. The DOJ also clarified that no information will be removed to protect any prominent or political figure.
‘Victims’ Identities Were Not Properly Concealed’
Victims’ lawyer Gloria Allred stated that some documents did not properly conceal their names and photographs, which is wrong. She said this has re-traumatized the victims. One victim also stated that her name was released, even though she was not allowed to view her own file. She called this an injustice.
The Trump administration is facing criticism over this entire matter because Congress ordered the release of all documents related to Epstein, but the government has released only a few files. Democratic leaders say the documents released are incomplete.
