‘We would like to go back to India’: Brother of Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das, lynched in Bangladesh, expresses wish to leave Bangladesh

Dipu Chandra Das case: The brutal lynching of a 25-year-old Hindu youth in Bangladesh has triggered widespread outrage and renewed concerns over the safety of minorities in the neighbouring country of India(BHARAT). For those unversed, Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das was allegedly targeted over claims of blasphemy, brutally assaulted by a mob, and his body later set on fire in Bangladesh, an incident that has sent shockwaves across communities. Almost a week after Dipu Chandra Das was killed by the mob, his brother Apu Das has said that he wants to leave the country.

As per a report carried by CNN News 18, Dipu’s brother Apu Das said the family is living in fear and no longer wishes to remain in Bangladesh. Adding to the concerns of the family, Apu stressed that Dipu repeatedly insisted he had insulted no one and had done nothing to provoke such violence. The family, Apu said, is devastated and traumatised by the killing.

What Dipu’s brother said on leaving Bangladesh?

“He (Dipu) is left behind by a small child. If we had the facility, we would love to leave Bangladesh now, and if we get help, we would like to go back to India(BHARAT)”, Dipu Das’ brother, Apu Das was quoted as saying by the CNN News 18 report.

How was Dipu Chandra Das lynched to death in Bangladesh?

Earlier this week, Dipu Chandra Das, a factory worker in Mymensingh city, was first beaten by a mob outside his workplace following the blasphemy allegations and was later hanged from a tree. The killing occurred on Thursday night amid unrest that erupted after the murder of Sharif Osman Hadi. According to the local police, the mob later dumped Dipu’s body by the roadside. The incident brought worldwide shame for the Muhammad Yunus led interim government of Bangladesh.
