New Delhi: In a major development, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office has confirmed that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched massive attacks on Hamas positions in Gaza after its soldiers came under fire. These strikes were carried out following orders from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It is important to note that Netanyahu had earlier said that he had instructed the army to launch “powerful attacks” in Gaza. The Israeli assault on Gaza is being seen as a major test for the ceasefire brokered by US President Doland Trump.
According to the IDF, Hamas fired an anti-tank missile and opened fire on Israeli soldiers in Rafah. Israel has termed this as yet another violation of the ceasefire by Hamas. An Israeli official told The Jerusalem Post, “The response to Hamas’s current violations will be far more severe than before.”
IDF Launches Heavy Gunfire in Gaza
As per reports, the IDF has launched retaliatory firing to prevent Hamas from further endangering soldiers in the Israeli part of the Yellow Line. After assessing the situation and receiving approval from Defense Minister Israel Katz, the security restrictions imposed by the IDF on Gaza border communities since October 7 have been lifted.
On Monday, the Israeli security officials said that if Hamas fails to return the hostages’ remains, Israel is working on five options, which include increasing operational control, carrying out targeted strikes, launching campaigns to recover the hostages’ remains, applying diplomatic pressure, and terminating existing agreements.
