‘It’s working well, but can bat anywhere’, says Nitish Reddy on batting at Number four

New Delhi: All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy lit up the Arun Jaitley Stadium with a scintillating six-hitting show in a sensational 34-ball seventy four to be a couple of of the enormous architects of India’s 86-run win over Bangladesh and take an unassailable 2-0 series lead.

Except for his batting, Reddy also showed his seam-bowling skills and took 2-23 to complete a surprising all-round show. “We planned to play fearless cricket, and that’s what helped me. I took my time, and once I saw the over where I needed to attack, that’s when the full thing changed. I feel great on this moment.”

“It’s working reasonably well, but I can bat anywhere. You may be ready to send me to open, middle-order, or lower-order. I’ve batted in previous age groups in addition to, so I became ready for the full thing. But this No. Four position is working for me too,” said Reddy in a conversation with JioCinema.

Reddy became 13 off 13 balls at one point, earlier than hitting a six on a no-ball off Mahmudullah flicked a switch in him to attack the Bangladesh bowlers with humungous shots, especially on the leg-side.

“I practiced with that bat and felt it became very good, but I believed in every other bat, so I became a bit perplexed. Then I changed my bat and trusted it. That no-ball gave me a bit pressure relief, and from there, I took the game on.

“It’s my individual plan. At that moment, Bangladesh had great momentum, so we thought to take the time. I felt that no-ball changed the full thing once I hit the six off it, after which we got charged up and the full thing went in the appropriate direction. That became the over we targeted because an off-spinner became bowling to a right-hander. It became a massive moment, but I became backing my power,” he added.

Reddy hit his first international fifty in 27 balls, while sharing a whirlwind 108-run stand with fellow 0.5 of-centurion Rinku Singh. “We didn’t plan anything. He became just saying, ‘It’s God’s plan, little one!’ After every six, it became ‘God’s plan.’ We didn’t essentially specialise in it an excessive amount of.

“I didn’t have that skill (of attacking spinners) from the start, but I’ve worked challenging on it, together with my bat swing. After my first year, I realised I needed to elevate on this area. It feels good to appear that arduous work paying off.”

Reddy provided how conversations with bowling coach Morne Morkel helped him come good with the ball. “Yes, I'm engaged on my bowling. I be more consistent because with a view to lend a hand me grow as an unbelievable all-rounder.

“He’s coach and offers me numerous self belief, so I'm very grateful to have him on the team. The plans here are very different, and that they’ve been essentially helpful for my development and talent.”

Reddy signed off by speaking about the role of his stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL helping his development as an all-rounder. “On the foundation, I didn’t expect to bat at No. Four. I became being looked at as a correct all-rounder who may bat in the lower order. But once I performed against Punjab, that’s after they believed in me and gave me the possibility at No. Four.”
