Late Sushma Swaraj’s husband Swaraj Kaushal passes away, father of BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj, he served as ex-Governor of Mizoram

New Delhi: Late Sushma Swaraj’s husband Swaraj Kaushal, who served as the former governor of Mizoram, passed away on Thursday. He was 73 years old. As per BJP’s Delhi wing, Kaushal’s last rites will be performed at around 4.30 pm today at Lodhi Road Cremation Ground, one of the oldest cremation grounds located near Lodhi Garden, Delhi.

The Delhi BJP announced Swaraj Kaushal’s death on its official X handle.

सांसद एवं प्रदेश मंत्री सुश्री बांसुरी स्वराज जी के पिताजी श्री स्वराज कौशल जी का आज 4 दिसम्बर, 2025 को निधन हो गया है।

उनका अंतिम संस्कार आज 4 दिसम्बर, 2025 को सायं 4.30 बजे लोधी रोड श्मशान घाट पर किया जायेगा।

Who Was Swaraj Kaushal?

Swaraj Kaushal was a prominent lawyer of the country and he also served as the governor of the northeastern state of Mizoram. He was born on 12, 1952. Talking about his educational qualifications, he studied at reputed educational institutions like – Delhi University and Punjab University. After completing his studies, Swaraj started practicing law, and after some time, he became a senior lawyer at the Supreme Court.

Swaraj Kaushal also served as a Rajya Sabha MP for six years. He also became the youngest individual to hold the respectable position of Governor.

Swaraj Kaushal’s Personal Life

Talking about his personal life, Swaraj married Sushma Swaraj in 1975. He and his wife Sushma were prominent BJP leaders. In 2014, Sushma Swaraj served as Foreign Minister in the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Sushma Swaraj passed away in August 2019. She also served as Chief Minister of Delhi. Currently, taking the family legacy further, Swaraj Kaushal’s daughter, Bansuri, is a prominent BJP leader and MP from Delhi.
