Leaked documents reveal Google's lofty plans for AI this year, may launch the most powerful AI yet

Google believes 2024 is going to be the year in which they will launch one of the biggest and most powerful AI models to have ever existed. This is also the year, they plan, where they take on OpenAI and establish themselves as the leader in generic software solutions.

In the year 2023, the artificial intelligence landscape experienced a rapid surge, fueled by the success of OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

This triumph initiated an AI arms race, witnessing tech giants like Meta, Google, and Microsoft competing fervently to establish themselves as leaders in the field. OpenAI continued to maintain its lead, but recent leaks suggest that Google is aggressively pursuing the goal of delivering the world’s most advanced, safe, and responsible AI.

An internal document obtained by The Verge revealed Google’s ambitious objectives, encompassing seven key goals.

These include enhancing knowledge, learning, creativity, and productivity, building the most helpful personal computing platforms and devices, enabling innovation on Google Cloud, providing the world’s most trusted products and platforms, creating an exceptional environment for employees, improving company efficiency, and delivering cost savings.

While Google’s commitment to advancing AI is evident, recent layoffs within the company align to improve company efficiency and productivity, hinting at potential workforce optimizations.

The pressure on Google to catch up with OpenAI, particularly in light of the success of ChatGPT compared to Google’s Bard, has been substantial.

Despite the introduction of Gemini last year, Google’s AI capabilities are perceived to be trailing OpenAI, prompting the tech giant to explore new avenues.

Rumours suggest that OpenAI is already working on a major update to GPT-4, maintaining the pressure on competitors. Google, in response, has been integrating AI into existing products such as Pixel smartphones, business applications, and generative AI search.

While Google may not have produced an AI product equivalent to ChatGPT, there are speculations about a new chatbot powered by the formidable Gemini Ultra model.

The dynamics of the AI landscape also indicate that Microsoft’s cloud business, fueled by its partnership with OpenAI, is experiencing rapid growth, potentially surpassing Google in this domain. The AI race continues, with tech giants vying for supremacy and innovation in this transformative field.
