IndiGo said a "security threat was received for IndiGo flight 6E 68 operating from Jeddah to Hyderabad on November 1" following which the flight was diverted to Mumbai.
IndiGo bomb threat: A Hyderabad-bound IndiGo flight was diverted to Mumbai after a bomb threat was received at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International (RGIA) Airport, aka the Hyderabad Airport.
As per the police, a threat email sent to the Hyderabad Airport, claimed there was a “human bomb” onboard the Jeddah-Hyderabad IndiGo flight, following which the aircraft was was diverted to Mumbai where it landed safely.
In a complaint lodged with the police, Hyderabad airport authorities said they received a threat email at around 5.30 am on Saturday morning, warning them to “prevent landing of IndiGo (flight) in Hyderabad” as there are LTTE-ISI operatives onboard the flight, who have “planned a major 1984 Madras Airport Modus operandi style blast”.
Following the complaint, all stakeholders were alerted and the flight was diverted to Mumbai airport where it landed safely, and all security checks were conducted which did not reveal any issue. “All (security) checks were carried out and no issue was found,” the police said, adding that a case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
IndiGo bomb threat
Meanwhile, an IndiGo spokesperson said a “security threat was received for IndiGo flight 6E 68 operating from Jeddah to Hyderabad on November 1” following which the flight was diverted to Mumbai.
The carrier said that followed the established protocol, and immediately informed the relevant authorities, and fully cooperated with them in carrying out the necessary security checks before the aircraft was cleared for further operations.
“We made all efforts to minimise inconvenience to our customers including offering them refreshments and sharing regular updates,” the spokesperson stated.
Notably, the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad, also known as the Hyderabad Airport, is the largest airport in India(BHARAT) in terms of sheer size.
