Bihar Assembly Election: Gangster-turned-politician Dular Chand Yadav, who died on Thursday during a violent clash between two opposing groups in Patna’s Mokama, did not die of a bullet injury he received during the incident, but due to cardiorespiratory failure, officials said on Saturday.

How did Dular Chand Yadav die?

According to Yadav’s post-mortem report, Yadav suffered a cardiorespiratory failure due to trauma caused by injury to the heart and lungs.

“The reason behind Yadav’s death is cardiorespiratory failure due to shock caused by injury of the heart and lungs by a hard and blunt substance,” according to the autopsy report submitted to the Patna Police.

As per the report, Dular Chand Yadav sustained a bullet injury near the ankle joint, but the gunshot wound did not cause his death.

Why clashes broke out in Mokama?

Dular Chand Yadav, considered close to RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, was campaigning for Jan Suraaj Party’s candidate Piyush Priyadarshi in Patna’s Mokama on Thursday, when clashes broke out allegedly between supporters of local strongman and Janata Dal United (JD-U) candidate, Anant Singh, and those campaigning for Priyadarshi.

Local media reports said both sides stones at each other and Yadav was shot in the ankle during the scuffle. Purported videos of the incident have gone viral on social media platforms.

Following the incident, Patna’s District Election Officer-cum-District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) on Friday visited Badh and Mokama areas and held a meeting with the candidates/their representatives from both assembly constituencies.

“The DM gave clear instructions that violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) will not be tolerated. All stakeholders must ensure strict compliance of the the poll code, otherwise strict legal action will be initiated against them,” Patna district administration said in a statement.

JDU’s Anant Singh, others named as accused

Meanwhile, the Patna Police has registered three FIRs against five accused in the incident, including Anant Singh, the JD(U) candidate from Mokama.

Anant Singh has been named as an accused in an FIR registered based on a complaint filed by Yadav’s grandson, while another FIR was lodged against six people based on a complaint filed by the Prashat Kishor-led Jan Suraaj Party. A third FIR has been registered by the police based on its own investigation, PTI reported.

According to officials. two people have been arrested so far in connection with the incident, while Station House Officers (SHOs) of Bhadaur and Ghoswari police stations have been suspended for “dereliction of duty”.

Bihar Assembly Election will be held in two phases on November 6 and November 11, with the counting of votes to follow on November 14.
