Major airline cancels six flights to New York, stranded passengers offered refunds

Singapore Airlines, which currently operates the longest commercial flight in the world to New York from Singapore at just over 19 hours, has preemptively canceled its flights going from and into John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) on Friday as well as flights to JFK from Frankfurt International (FRA) on Friday and to and from Newark Liberty (EWR) from Singapore on Saturday.
Singapore Airlines calls off six flights, travelers to be put "on alternative flights"
The airline added that more flights could be affected as it continues to monitor the weather in the coming days.
"Customers affected by the flight cancellations will be reaccommodated on alternative flights or can seek a full refund of the unused portion of their ticket," Singapore Airlines said in a statement.

Customers booked on those flights can also preemptively initiate a refund on the Singapore Airlines website; travelers on any flight booked with the airline in the coming days are encouraged to check the status of their flight right up to the moment they head to the airport to avoid an unnecessary trip.
The exact flights affected include SQ23 leaving JFK at 10:05 p.m. on Dec. 26, SQ24 leaving SIN at 12:10 p.m. on Dec. 26, SQ25 leaving JFK at 8:15 p.m. on Dec. 26, SQ26 leaving FRA at 8:35 a.m. on Dec. 26, SQ21 leaving EWR at 5:45 p.m. on Dec. 27, and SQ22 leaving SIN at 5:30 a.m. on Dec. 27.
Hong Kong airline Cathay Pacific also canceled its Dec. 26 flight CX 840 to JFK from Hong Kong Airport (HKG) while waiving rebooking and refund charges for passengers on any of its flights between Dec. 25 and 28 whose fare class would otherwise not allow for it. Korean Air, Eva Air also cancel flights to JFK
Korean Air and Taiwan's Eva Air have both also canceled their Friday flights to JFK.
"We suggest you regularly check the status of your flight through our website," the latter airline said in a statement. "Please contact your local EVA Air office or an airport office for updated information concerning delayed flights."

Flight data from Newark, JFK and LaGuardia currently shows that over 400 international flights into NYC were canceled for Friday while the latter two airports are the most heavily affected.
"As New Yorkers continue to celebrate the holidays and prepare to celebrate the new year, they should also prepare for hazardous travel conditions Friday into Saturday," the office of New York Mayor Eric Adams said in a statement. "Avoid driving if possible, give yourself extra travel time on public transit, and stay alert to changing conditions."
