New Delhi: In a major development, the Modi government has approved Rs 8.48 crore for laying a new railway line in Sikkim. According to the reports, the funds have been allocated for the Final Location Survey (FLS) of the Melli–Dentam railway line project. This will enhance rail connectivity in the southern and western parts of the state. The Ministry of Railways informed the Northeast Frontier Railway about this funding through a letter dated October 24.
To recall, Sikkim’s Lok Sabha MP, Indra Hang Subba, had earlier met Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on July 25. During the meeting, he urged the minister to expedite work on the Melli–Dentam railway project. The MP had requested that the FLS be completed quickly, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) be prepared, and work on the project begin soon.

- The Ministry of Railways has also decided to increase the frequency of the Dehradun–Tanakpur Express (train number 15019/15020).
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in a letter that the Dehradun–Tanakpur Weekly Express will now operate three times a week instead of once.
