Aadhar update: In a significant good news for Aadhar users across the country, the Unique Identification Authority of India(BHARAT) (UIDAI) has announced major reforms towards promoting digital convenience to Aadhaar cardholders. In the recent development, the UIDAI has announced measures to simplify Aadhaar related services including Biometrics Lock and Unlock features. Here are all the details you need to know about the new measures taken by UIDAI towards providing digital convenience to Aadhaar cardholders.
What are the new changes announced by UIDAI?
As per a report by news agency IANS, the new changes will allow cardholders to update key details such as their name, address, date of birth, or mobile number directly through the UIDAI portal, eliminating the need to visit enrolment centres. Also, the information that an individual submits will be digitally verified using linked government documents like PAN cards, passports, driving licences, or ration cards, ensuring both speed and accuracy.
Update on Aadhaar-PAN linking
In another significant update, the government mandated that Aadhaar-PAN linking to be completed by December 31, 2025. Announcing that the PAN cards that are not linked to Aadhar will be deactivated on January 1, 2026. As part of the procedure, new PAN applicants will also need to finish an Aadhaar-based verification.
UDAI simplifies Know Your Customer (KYC) process
UIDAI has also simplified the digital Know Your Customer (KYC) process for banks and financial institutions. Users can now verify their identity through video KYC, Aadhaar OTP-based authentication, or choose in-person verification if needed.
Additionally, the authority has announced a revised service fee structure that takes effect on November 1. Under the updated rates, Aadhaar reprints will cost Rs 40, biometric updates will be charged at Rs 125, and demographic updates will require a payment of Rs 75.
