New Delhi: AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu announced their separation after 29 years of marriage. The Oscar award-winning composer penned a heartfelt note, where he also is termed it a’ ‘shattering’ decision and that they'd hoped to reach the “grand thirty.” Sharing a post on X(formerly Twitter), Rahman wrote, “We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God may tremble on the burden of broken hearts. Yet, on this shattering, we seek which implies, though the pieces may now not in finding their place again.”
“To our friends, thanks for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter. #arrsairaabreakup,” the post further read. Soon after this news, bassist Mohini Dey, who worked with Rahman, also confirmed her separation from her husband Mark Hartsuch.

Her first book, 360 Degrees Back to Life: A Litigant’s Humorous Standpoint on Divorce, endorsed by the iconic feminist Gloria Steinem, won an award. Vandana has translated the opposite book on the Jain faith from Hindi to English.
When asked if there’s a correlation between AR Rahman and Saira’s separation announcement and Mohini Dey’s subsequent separation from her husband Mark, just hours later, Advocate Vandana Shah became quoted as saying to news agency IANS, ‘There’s nothing between Rahman and Mohini Dey. I don’t know why persons are connecting these two events. Divorce is a demanding and painful decision. They’re already in pain; such news only increases their trauma.
Saira’s lawyer, Vandana Shah, issued an official statement confirming that Saira Banu had made the demanding choice to separate with AR Rahman after 29 years of marriage following years of emotional strain.
