New Delhi: In a major development, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Imran Haider, met Muhammad Yunus on Sunday and discussed ways to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, medical services, education, and aviation. According to the reports, the possibility of starting direct flights between Dhaka and Karachi emerged after the meeting. It is important to note that the talks took place at a time when Bangladesh has witnessed incidents of violence against Hindus.
Talking to the media, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Imran Haider, said that direct flights between Dhaka and Karachi are likely to begin in January as part of efforts to strengthen relations between the two countries. He described his meeting with Muhammad Yunus, the head of Bangladesh’s interim government, at the state guest house in Dhaka on Sunday as positive.
Yunus’s Office Releases Statement
The office of Muhammad Yunus released a statement where he said that discussions were held on increasing cooperation between Pakistan and Bangladesh in trade, investment, and aviation. It further added that the talks took place on boosting cultural, educational, and medical exchanges to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
The Pakistani High Commissioner has informed that the bilateral trade has increased by 20 percent. Business communities from both countries are actively exploring new investment opportunities. He added that Bangladeshi students have shown interest in pursuing higher education in Pakistan, especially in medical sciences, nanotechnology, and artificial intelligence.
Yunus Calls for Strengthening Friendship
Mohammad Yunus has shown keen interest in more interactions between the two countries and called for increasing travel among SAARC member nations, along with cultural, educational, and people-to-people exchanges.
Yunus also stressed the need to further promote Bangladesh–Pakistan trade. He described the direct Dhaka–Karachi flight as a positive initiative.
