‘Mujhe achhe scripts…’: Jitendra Kumar on breaking the mould, says he was never stereotyped as ‘boy next door’ | Exclusive

Jitendra Kumar is the kind of actor who doesn’t just act, he lives his characters. From the lovable mentor Jeetu Bhaiya in Kota Factory to the small-town everyman Abhishek Tripathi in Panchayat, he has a knack for making audiences feel like they know him personally.

And now, the actor is all set for something completely different. Bhagwat Chapter 1: Raakshas has Jitendra stepping into a darker, more mysterious zone, sharing screen space with Arshad Warsi in a thriller that promises suspense, twists, and a side of him we’ve never seen before.

Breaking stereotypes, or just exploring himself?

Given his OTT success, when asked whether he feels typecast as the “OTT boy-next-door” and if choosing the role of Sameer in Bhagwat Chapter 1: Raakshas was a conscious attempt to break that image, Jitendra Kumar laughed off the idea and said, “Nahi, I don’t feel aisa kuch hua hai. Ya fir kis category ki aap baat kar rahe ho, I have no idea,” he says.

He further added, “I think jo bhi stories hain, wo bohot different hain. Jo characters kiye hain, wo bhi bohot alag hain. Aisa bilkul bhi nahi hai.”

In short, Jitendra isn’t worried about labels or stereotypes. For him, it’s always been about the story and the character, not how the world wants to categorise him.

He also talked about his upcoming films without naming them and said, “Main lagatar bohot saari films kar raha hoon, bohot saari series kar raha hoon. I don’t feel kisi category mein mujhe fit kiya gaya hai. Kaafi interesting cheezein log mere paas le kar aa rahe hain.”

It’s clear, Jitendra chooses interesting stories over safe bets. And whether it’s a small-town comedy, a mentor role, or a dark thriller, he’s ready to explore every shade of storytelling. And if Bhagwat Chapter 1: Raakshas is anything to go by, audiences are in for a treat. A side of Jitendra that’s intense, layered, and far from the lovable everyman is about to make its mark.

For Jitendra, this isn’t about escaping an image; it’s about broadening it. From Jeetu Bhaiya to Sameer in Bhagwat, he’s showing that an actor’s journey isn’t just about the roles you’re known for, but the ones you’re willing to take on next.

About Bhagwat Chapter 1: Raakshas

Bhagwat Chapter One: Raakshas is a gripping Hindi-language crime thriller that delves into the dark alleys of a small town in Uttar Pradesh. Directed by Akshay Shere, the film follows Inspector Vishwas Bhagwat (Arshad Warsi) as he investigates the mysterious disappearance of several young women. What begins as a routine case soon unravels into a complex web of secrets, lies, and moral dilemmas.

Jitendra Kumar portrays Sameer, a seemingly mild-mannered professor whose involvement in the case adds layers of intrigue. His character’s evolution throughout the film challenges perceptions and keeps the audience on edge.

The film’s narrative is inspired by true events, adding a layer of realism that enhances its impact. With a stellar cast, including Ayesha Kaduskar and Tara-Alisha Berry, and a screenplay that keeps viewers guessing, Bhagwat Chapter One: Raakshas is a must-watch for fans of intense, thought-provoking thrillers.
