Ilaiyaraaja ‘s legal team approached producers of ‘Manjummel Boys’, Soubin Shahir, Babu Shahir, and Shawn Antony for unauthorised usage of ‘Kanmani Anbodu’ song from Kamal Haasan’s ‘Gunaa’.

The legal team of the music maestro also stated that the original song featuring Kamal was composed by Ilaiyaraaja. However, the makers of the Malayalam film have mentioned, ‘the same or any underlying gesture cannot be a substitute for our client’s permission /licence /content for such usage.’ Now that Manjummel Boys garnered massive profits and is now available on OTT. The legal team of Ilayaraja has provided two options. The producers of the film have been asked to obtain permission from the composer or to take down the music from the film, after issuing compensation for unaccredited usage of the song.

The team also reported that they might take criminal and civil proceedings if needed against Manjummel Boys producers namely, Soubhin Shahir, Babu Shahir, and Shawn Antony, if they decline the the two opportunities presented by Ilaiyaraaja’s legal team. It is worth noting that Manjummel Boys producers aren’t the first ones to be served with a legal notice. Earlier, Ilaiyaraaja ‘s legal team issued a notice to Sun Pictures when they dropped Rajnikanth’s promo of ‘Coolie’ helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The music composer flagged the issue of usage of one of his songs.
