New poll shows Trump beating Biden in 2024

In a recent survey conducted by the Wall Street Journal, former US President Donald Trump appears to have a lead over current President Joe Biden in the upcoming presidential race. The poll, based on responses from 1,500 registered voters, indicates a notable decline in President Biden’s approval rating, leaving him trailing behind Trump by 4 points.

On a hypothetical ballot featuring only Trump and Biden, the former president secures 47 percent of the vote compared to Biden’s 43 percent. This lead expands to 6 points, with Trump at 37 percent and Biden at 31 percent, when additional third-party and independent candidates are considered.

The survey reflects widespread dissatisfaction with President Biden’s policies, particularly regarding the economy. A record-high 61 percent of respondents view Biden’s overall image unfavorably, and only 37 percent approve of his job performance. “Bidenomics,” the president’s economic platform, receives unfavorable reviews from more than half of the voters.

Despite positive economic indicators such as robust GDP growth, controlled inflation, and low unemployment, two-thirds of voters perceive the economy as poor. This economic anxiety is especially pronounced among younger voters, a crucial segment of the Democratic coalition.

The survey unveils a prevailing sense of pessimism among voters, with 48 percent expressing doubts that the current generation will fare better than the previous one. However, Biden retains trust over Trump on specific issues like abortion, which historically garners support for Democratic candidates.

While concerns about Biden’s age persist, with the president turning 81 in November, the survey suggests that undecided voters lean Democratic in other aspects. Respondents express trust in Biden over Trump on abortion-related matters, indicating potential sway towards Biden as the election approaches.

Despite challenges, the Biden camp remains resilient, emphasizing the president’s experience and accomplishments. The White House, responding to concerns about Biden’s age, highlighted his extensive public service record and legislative achievements.

However, internal discussions within the administration reveal differing opinions on how to handle Biden’s public appearances. Some advocate a cautious approach, intending to shield the president from potential mishaps, while others insist on an active campaign trail to showcase Biden’s vigor and experience.
