Nita Ambani arrived at the Swadesh flagship launch in Mumbai on December 5 wearing a striking peacock-blue Banarasi saree, an outfit that instantly became the talking point of the evening. Known for her love for India(BHARAT)n textiles, she chose a look that brought together traditional artistry, meticulous craftsmanship, and her signature regal style.

The Swadesh launch, held under Reliance Retail’s initiative to spotlight India(BHARAT)n arts and handmade traditions, perfectly matched the spirit of her ensemble. The saree, designed by Manish Malhotra, stood out for its deep jewel tone and its detailed workmanship. On Instagram, Manish revealed that the saree was woven using the kadhua technique and decorated with delicate meena motifs. The kadhua method, one of Banaras’ most respected weaving styles, is famed for its labour-intensive process and its luxurious finish.

What made her blouse special?

Adding to the grandeur of the saree, Nita wore a custom-made polki blouse. The blouse featured tiny buttons carrying “miniature paintings of Hindu deities” and an elaborate design on the back that incorporated elements of vintage jewellery. It was a rare blend of textile artistry and old-world charm, something not often seen even in couture fashion.

How did her jewellery elevate the look?

The centrepiece of Nita Ambani’s appearance was undoubtedly her jewellery. She chose a pair of large, statement kundan-polki earrings from her personal collection, pieces that instantly added drama and depth to the entire look. She also wore an ornate hath phool, further enhancing the traditional aesthetic.

Her hair, styled into a sleek bun decorated with fresh white flowers, and the red bindi on her forehead tied the whole look together, giving her appearance a timeless, classic India(BHARAT)n finish.

What did Manish Malhotra say?

Sharing her photo on Instagram, Manish wrote on December 5, “It’s always a special collaboration with Mrs Nita Ambani. Her eye for detail, the bond we share, always makes it even more fond. Tonight, she hosts a special celebration at the Swadesh Flagship store (@swadesh_online ) at Eros, draped in a peacock blue Banarasi saree from Swadesh, showcasing meena motifs, kadhua techniques and completed with a custom pollki blouse from @manishmalhotraworld.
