‘No oil reserves in Pakistan’: Oil company shatters Donald Trump’s dream! Did Asim Munir cheat the US President?
After Donald Trump's claim, American and Pakistani officials have been publicly talking about oil reserves.

New Delhi: US President Doland Trump had recently claimed that Pakistan has huge oil reserves and one day India(BHARAT) will also buy oil from Pakistan. But people in Pakistan are confused about where that mysterious oil reserve is hidden. The trade agreement that Doland Trump had made with Pakistan also included a deal for extracting crude oil. Trump had said in July that “Pakistan and America will work together to develop their huge oil reserves.” He had said that “We are in the process of selecting the oil company that will lead this partnership. Who knows? Maybe, they will sell oil to India(BHARAT) someday!”
‘Trump’s claim of oil reserves in Pakistan is completely absurd’
Pakistan’s state oil and gas company has expressed surprise at Doland Trump’s claims. Pakistan’s state oil company has called Doland Trump’s claim of Pakistan having huge oil reserves false. Oil company officials have told the Financial Times that Trump’s claim of oil reserves in Pakistan is “completely absurd”. Another official told the Financial Times that “there is no mysterious, undiscovered oil field that is going to produce 1 billion barrels of oil.”
Energy Information Administration’s 2015 claim
After Doland Trump’s claim, American and Pakistani officials have been publicly talking about oil reserves. The basis of their estimate is a 2015 report by the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), which said that Pakistan’s lower Indus Basin region may have more than 9 billion barrels of onshore shale oil. Such reserves would put Pakistan among the 10 largest onshore oil sources in the world. But consultancy firm Rystad Energy has said that the EIA report was just an initial estimate based on preliminary seismic data, not a confirmed one. At the same time, First Post reported that Pratik Pandey, Rystad’s head of oil and research in the Asia-Pacific region, has said that there has been very little progress in oil and gas exploration and extraction in Pakistan. Pandey told the FT that “these potential (shale) resources are still many years away from being commercially viable.”
Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan claimed in 2019 about oil reserves
Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan had announced in 2019 that a consortium of Italy-based Eni and US oil and gas giant Exxon was digging a well in the Arabian Sea, which would eliminate the need for Pakistan to buy oil for the next 50 years. But just hours after Imran Khan’s statement, the Eni-Exxon exploration team announced that they had long since closed the project because they found nothing but water there. Both companies left Pakistan. In such a situation, Pakistan’s state-owned oil and gas company has once again confirmed that Doland Trump has been deceived by Asim Munir.
