As per a report by news.cgtn.com, the next-to-impossible task became possible because of the participation of Chinese people. located in the region started planting drought-resistant trees in a 30,000-hectare area, transforming sand dunes into agricultural land. The people made 3,046-kilometer shelter belt around the Taklamakan desert, which is the longest desert green belt of its kind in the world. This belt blocks the sandstorms and also boosts tourism in the region.
How China Beats The Desert By Great Green Wall?
According to a report published by the South China Morning Post, Beijing has completed a sand control belt which connects three deserts’ regions in Inner Mongolia, another step of building the ‘Green Great Wall’ in the northern region. According to the Xinhua news agency, the Dragon has intensified its efforts to stop the desert.

How Long Is The Great Green Wall Of China?
The Green Great Wall is about 1,856 km long, preventing the dry land from becoming sandy by extensive plantations. Apart from Taklamakan desert, the green belt passes the Tengger and Ulaanbuh deserts. All the three deserts cover a total area of 94,700 square kilometres.
China’s Three Norths Are Most At Risk
China is controlling the effect of its largest desert – Taklamakan – with its green belt. This mega project is part of the neighbouring country’s decades-long efforts. It is putting its effort to curb desertification in its northern regions through afforestation and high-tech sand control measures called the Three-North Shelterbelt Forest Program. The South China Morning Post reported that the biggest threat to China is this desert, which is engulfing the area and converting it to a dry sandy land day by day.
