Two significant earthquakes struck near the East Coast of Kamchatka in Russia early Friday, with the first measuring 7.5 on the Richter scale.

Russia Earthquake: An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale struck off the Russian coast on Friday, following a 7.5 tremor that hit near the East Coast of Kamchatka. No immediate damage or casualties have been reported in the incident, as per earlier reports.
Where did the quake hit?
As per National Center for Seismology (NCS), two significant earthquakes struck near the East Coast of Kamchatka early Friday, with the first measuring 7.5 on the Richter scale and struck at 00:28:23 IST at a latitude of 53.29 N and longitude of 160.36 E, at a depth of 85 km.
The second quake, which came shortly after the first tremor, occurred at 00:38:23 IST at a latitude of 53.08 N and longitude of 160.59 E, at a depth of 30 km, and measured 6.0 on the Richter scale, NCS said in a post on X.
According to the agency, both earthquakes were recorded near the East Coast of Kamchatka, where a recent magnitude 7.0 quake occurred at a depth of 60 kilometres. “EQ of M: 7.0, On: 13/09/2025 08:07:57 IST, Lat: 53.32 N, Long: 159.92 E, Depth: 60 Km, Location: Near East Coast of Kamchatka”.
Why tsunami alert was issued in Alaska?
Meanwhile, the tremors come a day after after a magnitude 7.8 quake, that struck near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in eastern Russia, triggered a tsunami alert Western Aleutian Islands of Alaska, as per US Geological Survey (USGS) data. According to the USGS, the tremor struck east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at 11:58 PM PDT on September 18 at a depth of 10 km.
