Pakistan Earthquake: 3.5 magnitude quake jolts Pakistan, third in 24 hours, what’s happening?
Pakistan jolted by 3.5 and at a depth of 10 km on Saturday morning. A 4.2 magnitude quake also struck the country on Friday night.

Earthquake jolted Pakistan: Pakistan was jolted by an earthquake of magnitude 3.5 on the Richter scale on Saturday early morning (local time). The quake struck at a depth of 10 km, which increases the likelihood of aftershocks. In a post on X, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) said, “EQ of M: 3.5, On: 18/10/2025 05:04:04 IST, Lat: 36.64 N, Long: 72.96 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Pakistan.” Earlier in the day, another seismic activity struck the region at a depth of 10 km. “EQ of M: 3.9, On: 18/10/2025 03:25:49 IST, Lat: 36.68 N, Long: 72.85 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Pakistan,” NCS tweeted.
Another Earthquake Hit Pakistan
On Friday, 4.2 magnitude earthquake hit the neighbouring country at a depth of 10km. The quake hit the country at around 20:20:20 IST at latitude 36.39 N and longitude 72.38 E.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Pakistan jolted by 3.5 and at a depth of 10 km on Saturday morning.
- A 4.2 magnitude quake also struck the country on Friday night.
- Shallow quakes cause stronger ground shaking.
- High-risk regions include Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Why Shallow Earthquakes Are More Dangerous?
As per seismic experts, the Shallow earthquakes are considered as more dangerous than the deep quakes as their seismic waves have a shorter distance to travel to the surface, which result in stronger ground shaking.
Notably, Pakistan is listed among the seismically active countries in the world. It is surrounded by collision zone which makes it highly vulnerable to violent earthquakes.
Which Regions Of Pakistan Prone To Earthquakes?
Provinces like – Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan located on the southern edge of the Eurasian plate. Sindh and Punjab are located on the northwestern edge of the India(BHARAT)n plate. These planes have frequent seismic activities.
Other vulnerable regions, like Pakistan’s Punjab, lie on the northwestern edge of the India(BHARAT)n plate, making them susceptible to earthquakes.
Biggest Earthquake In Pakistan
One of the biggest and most dangerous earthquakes in the neighbouring country’s history is the 1945 Balochistan earthquake. It hit the country with 8.1 magnitude, causing significant destruction. It was the largest earthquake in Pakistan’s history.
