New Delhi: Massive protests are taking place in Lahore, Pakistan, where Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) took to the streets to protest the ceasefire in Gaza, leading to clashes with police that left 10 people dead and dozens injured. Police also suffered losses. Following this incident, authorities re-closed roads and motorways around Lahore and Islamabad, which had opened on Sunday, October 12. Meanwhile, some schools in Islamabad also closed earlier than usual.

Police clashed with TLP workers

Pakistani news website DAWN reported on the violence, saying that according to police, Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) protesters were dispersed after clashes on Monday, 13 October 2025. These protesters were camped in Muridke after authorities dug a trench to block their route to Islamabad. A senior police officer confirmed that police action to disperse protesters from Muridke began at 3 am and lasted for six hours.

SHO killed during clash

The TLP began its protest march in Lahore on Friday, October 9. It was planned to reach Islamabad and demonstrate in support of Gaza and Palestine outside the US Embassy. On Sunday, October 12, law enforcement agencies, including the Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) and a large force of police from five districts, were sent to Muridke, where they surrounded the TLP camp and began the evacuation operation. Later, Punjab Police spokesperson Mubashir Hussain said that a police station house officer (SHO) was killed during the clash, adding that 48 police personnel were injured in the clash, 17 of whom were shot, while eight civilians were also injured. He further stated that a passerby also died in the incident.

Exchange of fire

Hussain said that as law enforcement personnel moved to disperse the protesters, TLP members attacked them with stones, nail-studded sticks, and “petrol bombs.” He alleged that they later opened fire, in which several people were killed. Hussain accused TLP protesters of setting fire to 40 government and private vehicles, saying, “Law enforcement personnel had to take limited action in self-defence.” He added that police have also arrested several protesters. Authorities have been arresting TLP activists since the protests began last Friday. Meanwhile, Lahore Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Faisal Kamran told the media on Saturday, October 10, that 112 policemen have been injured since the protests began.
