PM Modi invited Amir of Qatar to India, says Foreign Secretary Kwatra as PM wraps up two-day official visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited the Amir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to India as he wrapped up his visit to the nation, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra said on Thursday.

Modi was accorded a ceremonial welcome in Doha on the second day of his two-day Qatar visit following which he the Amir of Qatar.

Summarising PM Modi’s official visit to Qatar, Kwatra said, “The two leaders thereafter held detailed discussions…The topics of discussion included a wide range of areas of bilateral cooperation including trade partnership, investment cooperation, energy partnership, issues engaged in regional security, cultural affinity, and people-to-people ties.”

Highlighting Qatar’s support to release the eight former Navy personnel who were imprisoned over spying charges, the foreign secretary said, “Prime Minister thanked His Highness the Amir for his support for the welfare of the Indian community and in this regard expressed his deep appreciation for the release of eight Indian nationals of Al Dahra company. We are extremely gratified to see them back in India.”

After concluding his two-day visit to Qatar, PM Modi said on X, “My visit to Qatar has added new vigour to the India-Qatar friendship. India looks forward to scaling up cooperation in key sectors relating to trade, investment, technology and culture. I thank the Government and people of Qatar for their hospitality.”

Modi further said that during his meeting with Sheikh Hamad, the two leaders discussed ways to deepen cooperation across various sectors.

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated the talks between both leaders, saying, “During the meeting, they discussed cooperation relations between the two friendly countries and ways to support and develop them, especially in the fields of energy, commerce and investment.”
