Veteran Bollywood actor Prem Chopra, known for shaping some of Hindi cinema’s most iconic villainous roles, is now recovering at home after undergoing a major cardiac procedure in Mumbai. Weeks after reports surfaced about his hospitalisation, his son-in-law and actor Sharman Joshi has shared a detailed and reassuring update on the 88-year-old star’s health.
What was Prem Chopra diagnosed with?
Chopra was admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital in November after experiencing chest congestion. After a medical evaluation, he was diagnosed with severe Aortic Stenosis, a condition in which the aortic valve narrows and restricts blood flow. Left untreated, it can lead to serious heart complications.
What procedure did he undergo?
Instead of an open-heart surgery, doctors opted for a minimally invasive method called TAVI (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation). The procedure allows doctors to replace the narrowed valve without opening the chest, offering quicker recovery and lower risk for elderly patients.
Sharman Joshi revealed that Dr Nitin Gokhale and interventional cardiologist Dr Ravinder Singh Rao performed the treatment with remarkable precision. “Their expertise ensured a smooth procedure, complication-free treatment and a fast recovery,” he wrote.

How is Prem Chopra doing now?
According to Joshi, the veteran actor has responded exceptionally well to the procedure and is already back home. “Dad is now home and feeling much better,” he shared, expressing the family’s gratitude to the medical team.
He also posted pictures from the hospital, showing a smiling Prem Chopra posing with his doctors. Veteran actor Jeetendra was also seen in the photos, suggesting he visited his longtime colleague and friend.
