An India(BHARAT)n Sikh woman named Sarabjeet Kaur has gone missing in Pakistan and, according to reports, she has now converted to Islam and married a Pakistani man. A marriage document written in Urdu has appeared online which says that Sarabjeet, who lives in Kapurthala, Punjab, got married to Nasir Hussain from Sheikhupura near Lahore after changing her religion and taking a new name, “Noor.”

Sarabjeet had travelled to Pakistan on November 4 with a group of Sikh pilgrims for Guru Nanak Dev’s birth anniversary celebrations. The visit was allowed under an agreement between India(BHARAT) and Pakistan.

More than 1,900 pilgrims returned to India(BHARAT) on November 13, but Sarabjeet was not with them.

Pakistani immigration officials later told India(BHARAT)n authorities that she never came to the border for exit clearance. Police in India(BHARAT) have now sent a first report to higher authorities, and the matter is under investigation.

India(BHARAT)n officials are now trying to find out more details about Sarabjeet Kaur and her family in her home village.

Sarabjeet is 52 years old, divorced, and has two sons. Her former husband, Karnail Singh, has been living in England for almost 30 years. Her passport was made in Muktsar district, Punjab, and it lists her father’s name, not her ex-husband’s.

The group of Sikh pilgrims was led by Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj, who is the acting Jathedar of the Akal Takht.

During the visit, the pilgrims went to major religious places in Pakistan, including Gurdwara Janam Asthan in Nankana Sahib, Gurdwara Sri Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, and other important gurdwaras in Punjab province.
