Ranbir Kapoor on Kareena Kapoor rejecting Nargis Fakhri's role in 'Rockstar': 'Since we are…'

Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri starred together in Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar back in 2011. However, a report stated back in the day the filmmaker’s first choice was Kareena Kapoor Khan, after she impressed him with her spontaneous performance in Jab We Met.

Why did Kareena say no?

Ranbir told Hindustan Times, “She’s hardworking, passionate and has had the opportunity to work with many good directors, including Imtiaz. It’s unfortunate that since we are related by blood, we couldn’t act together.”

Kareena Kapoor Khan made headlines for her OTT debut this year with the film Jaane Jaan alongside impeccably talented Vijay Varma and Paatal Lok fame Jaideep Ahlawat. Directed by Sujoy Ghosh, the film garnered her recognition and applause for her commendable portrayal of a single mother. The actress, known for her timeless charm and beauty, recently addressed the concern about the emphasization of appearances over the actor’s performance.

Speaking about how female stars are stereotyped based on their appearance, Kareena, in an interview with Film Companion, said, “The industry kind off boxes you to constantly focus on the way you are looking. But I have always tried to break away from that fact. I want to be an actor first. This has been the case right from my first movie.”

Despite this, Kareena asserted her confidence in her looks saying that she is not worried about her fine lines and wrinkles showing up on the camera. Admitting that she wants people to see her beyond her looks, Kareena added that she, now, wants to focus on proving her mettle as an actress. Kareena said, “I am confident about the way I look. I don’t care if my lines are showing because that is just the way I am. I am an actor. Can you look beyond that (appearance), that’s always been a challenge for me. I wanted them to look beyond that. Right from Refugee it has always been about wanting to prove myself as an actor. The star part of it was extremely incidental, but I have done films for that. But now it’s not about that.”
