Bhumi Pednekar on Ranbir Kapoor's 'Animal': 'I saw the film; don't like hyper-masculine films, never liked them as...'

Ranbir Kapoor and Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ‘Animal’ continues to stay in limelight and attract attention and debate. The next one to join is Bhumi Pednekar. The actress spoke about the recent blockbuster during the promotions of her film ‘Bhakshak‘ that’s currently streaming on Netflix.

While speaking to LallanTop, the actress said, “I watched Animal. Truly, I don’t like hyper-masculine films, and that’s not for just now, even earlier I never liked them. Even in Hollywood, the action films… I like watching rom-coms, those kind of films I really enjoy.”

She added, “I genuinely believe that a film is a filmmaker’s self expression, and that is very important. But as an audience, what you learn from that self expression, that is the challenge.”

From Javed Akhtar to Konkona Sensharma to Swanand Kirkire, many have spoken against the theme the film essays.

Sharma recently said, “I have not watched Animal because I don’t feel it’s my kind of film. I haven’t really been drawn to it even from the reviews and things. Also, I am aware of his previous work, where stalking has been glorified, certain violence has been made acceptable in relationships, and that’s not what I stand for.”

The veteran writer and lyricist was invited to be a part of the Ajanta Ellora International Film Festival (AIFF) where he spoke about Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film.

He said, “It’s very dangerous when a movie, in which a man tells a woman to lick his shoe, and believes that slapping a girl is normal, works at the box office.”

He added, “People tell me that they are not liking the songs of recent times. But only 5-6 people are responsible for the making of the song. A song like Choli Ke Peeche Kya hai was made by 8-10 people. They aren’t the real problem. The real problem is that the song became superhit, it was liked by millions. This is what I’m afraid of.”
