New York: In what seemed to be a little cheeky, India captain Rohit Sharma was spotted passing vital information to the players in the middle – Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube – during a break on Wednesday. This incident transpired at the Nassau County in New York where India took on hosts USA. It happened during the 16th over when Rohit was spotted passing something to the two players who were set to carry the drinks inside. One reckons Rohit may have asked the two players in the middle to shift gears with wickets in hand.
Meanwhile, India won the game comfortably by seven wickets. Suryakumar (50* off 49 balls) and Dube (31* off 35 balls) remained unbeaten as they took India home with 10 balls to spare.
Chasing 111 to win, India got off to a disastrous start as they lost Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli early in the piece. Saurabh Natravalkar picked up both the wickets before claiming the crucial wicket of Rishabh Pant as well. But once Surya and Dube got together there was no looking back for India as they cruised home.
Earlier, pacer Arshdeep Singh was brilliant with the ball while taking four wickets as India restricted the USA to 110/8. Nitish Kumar (27, 23b, 2×4 1×6) batted well in the company of former New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson (15, 12b, 1×4, 1×6) after the USA were asked to bat first. For India, Arshdeep (4/9) and Hardik Pandya (2/14) were the best in the park, picking up six wickets between them.
India have qualified for the Super 8s with three out of three thus far. They would now play Canada in their next game on Saturday.
