‘Sab kuch luta ke…’: Asaduddin Owaisi slams Omar Abdullah over PSA removal remark, says ‘law misused by…’
Owaisi hit out at Omar Abdullah over his call to scrap PSA. He said PSA, introduced in 1978, was misused by all J&K governments.

New Delhi: Asaduddin Owaisi, president of the All India(BHARAT) Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), unleashed a barrage of jibes at Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah regarding his demand to restore statehood to remove the controversial Public Safety Act (PSA). He stated that the J&K Public Safety Act, 1978, has been misused by every elected and unelected government, leading to untold suffering and human rights violations. “Sab kuch luta ke hosh mein aaye to kya kiya. Din mein agar chiragh jalaye to kya kiya,” Owaisi posted on X.
What Did Owaisi Say?
He stated that former J&K’s CMs, like Omar, had the opportunity to abolish PSA and stop human rights abuses.
“The Public Safety Act, 1978 (PSA) was introduced by Sheikh Abdullah in 1978 to deal with smuggling. Farooq Abdullah, GM Shah, Mufti Sayeed, GN Azad, Omar Abdullah & Mehbooba Mufti have all been CMs of J&K. They could have easily repealed PSA & prevented untold suffering and human rights violations,” Owaisi said.
Owaisi stated that over 20,000 people of J&K have been put on jail since 1978, the time when ex-CM Sheikh Abdullah was in power, without any fair trials.
“The law has been misused by virtually every elected CM & unelected Governors. Over 20,000 people have been jailed since 1978 without criminal charges, fair trials or even a proper appeals process,” he added.
“Some detentions were extended for up to 7-12 years. One separatist was detained under the PSA and, when he was later needed, he was served with a court warrant and granted bail. Now there is a truncated elected govt, and it has dawned on it to do away with the PSA,” he added.
Why Did Asaduddin Owaisi Attack Omar Abdullah?
Asaduddin Owaisi slammed Omar Abdullah after the latter said his government in J&K would remove PSA through an ordinance.
“To remove it, we must have statehood. Security, law and order, all these things should be under the control of the elected government. The day these things are ours, I won’t even wait for the assembly session,” Abdullah said.
“We said in the manifesto that we would remove the Public Safety and Security Act (PSA) from Jammu and Kashmir,” Omar Abdullah told media on Saturday.
What Is PSA?
Under Public Safety and Security Act, the government has the power to detain any person for upto two years without trial. The act was introduced to tackle timber smuggling in 1978. However, it was later years used to detain political leaders and people considered a threat to law and order.
The latest PSA detentions include AAP MLA Mehraj Malik. He has been in Kathua jail since September 8, 2025. The person was arrested under PSA for allegedly disturbing public order in Doda district and allegedly using foul language against the Kathua deputy commissioner.
