Sam Altman’s OpenAI Releases ChatGPT-5, ‘Smarter and faster’ version of ChatGPT, here’s what it is capable of doing
OpenAI’s new GPT-5 brings big improvements to how people can interact with AI. It's not just faster and smarter, it is also more natural and personal in how it talks, writes, and helps you with tasks.

OpenAI has just launched its much-awaited ChatGPT-5, the latest version of its popular AI tool. This new version is said to be smarter and faster than the older ones. The release comes at a time when OpenAI is being used by nearly 700 million people every week. However, the company is also facing tough competition and increasing worries about how AI might affect jobs and mental health.
What is new in ChatGPT-5?
OpenAI says ChatGPT-5 will do a better job with tasks like:
- Writing
- Coding
- Answering health-related questions
It’s also been improved to give fewer wrong or confusing answers and will now be more honest when it does not know something.
Is ChatGPT-5 free to use?
Yes, the good news is that free users can now try both GPT-5 and a simpler version called GPT-5-mini. If you’re on the Plus plan, you’ll still use the same models but with higher limits which means that you can use them more often.
There’s also a Pro plan, which costs USD 200 per month. Pro users get:
- Unlimited access to GPT-5
- Access to two special versions: GPT-5-pro (more powerful), GPT-5-thinking (better at handling complex tasks)
- The option to switch to older versions of ChatGPT if they prefer
What can GPT-5 do?
OpenAI’s new GPT-5 brings big improvements to how people can interact with AI. It’s not just faster and smarter, it is also more natural and personal in how it talks, writes, and helps you with tasks.
Real-time voice conversations
GPT-5’s voice mode is now available for everyone. This means you can have a real-time conversation with the AI, just like talking to a person. In a live demo, someone asked it to describe Pride and Prejudice in one word. GPT-5 replied: “relationships.”
Control how it thinks and responds
You can now guide the AI’s thinking style. For example, if you ask it to “think harder” or “be more precise,” GPT-5 will adjust its answers to be deeper or clearer. This gives users more control and makes the experience feel more personal.
More human-like writing
GPT-5 is much better at creative writing. When it was asked to write a eulogy (a speech for honoring someone) for older GPT versions, it produced something emotional, thoughtful, and deeply human — not just dry facts like earlier versions.
Writes complex code & builds websites fast
In another demo, GPT-5 wrote over 200 lines of code in just a few minutes and built a complete, interactive website. The site included design features and even embedded audio to help users learn French with a partner — showing how powerful and practical it is for developers and learners.
Explains science & creates visuals
GPT-5 can explain complex topics, like the Bernoulli effect, in a way that’s easy to understand. It can also create visuals to go along with the explanation — making it even more useful for learning. The visuals take a bit longer to generate, but they add a lot of value.
GPT-5 can “think out loud”
One of the most impressive new features is that GPT-5 can “think out loud” — showing how it is working through a question step-by-step. This helps users understand its logic and trust the answers more.
Better Voice and Video Interaction
GPT-5 is also improving how it works with voice and video. It understands spoken instructions better and future updates will make conversations feel even more natural and aware of context.
