A Bengaluru man accused of abetting his wife's suicide, was found hanging from the ceiling fan of a hotel room, and adding to the tragedy, his mother also tried to end her life after learning about her son's demise.
Bengaluru suicide: In a tragic incident, a Bengaluru man accused of abetting his wife’s suicide, was found hanging from the ceiling fan of a hotel room, and adding to the tragedy, his mother also tried to end her life after learning about her son’s demise.
As per the police, the incident took place at a hotel on Wardha Road in Maharashtra’s Nagpur. An official at the Sonegaon police station said the deceased, identified as 36-year-old Suraj Shivanna, died by suicide after hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his hotel room.
Suraj, a resident of BEL Layout in Bengaluru’s Vidyaranyapura, had been accused of abetting the suicide of his wife, Ganvi, who ended her life on December 22 in Vidyaranyapura police limits just one-and-half months after marriage, the official said, adding that he was booked for abetment of suicide on the complaint of his wife’s parents.
Another official said Suraj was allegedly being threatened by Ganvi’s family, due to which he, along with his younger brother Sanjay (35), and their mother Jayanti Shivanna (60), left Bengaluru for Hyderabad and then arrived in Nagpur on Friday (December 26).
Meanwhile, following Suraj’s alleged suicide, his mother, Jayanti, was unable to bear the shock of her son’s death, and attempted to end her life, but was rescued by her younger son, Sanjay, the police said, adding that she is receiving medical attention at AIIMS Nagpur.
Police have registered a case of accidental death and recorded Sanjay’s statement, they said, adding further investigation in underway.
