ISM Manufacturing PMI Reports Best Results Since 2022
ISM Manufacturing PMI for Jan. 2026 just dropped, showing the highest reading in the index since Aug. 2022, at 52.6. Prices (59.0) and New Orders (57.1) were strong points, while Employment (48.1) remained a pain point.

Opening Bell
The U.S. markets are now open for the day. Despite a tepid showing in futures trading, the markets have jumped out of the gate today. The Dow (+0.43%) and Russell 2000 (+0.28%) lead the way, trailed by the Nasdaq (+0.19%) and S&P 500(+0.17%).
It's quite the turnaround for U.S. equities, which saw Nasdaq and S&P 500 futures decline up over 1.5% and 1.1% respectively last night. Investors were marinating on President Doland Trump's new Fed pick, Oracle announcing that it would raise over $50 billion to foot the bill for new data center expansion, and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang's backtracking on the firm's "$100 billion" "investment" in AI giant OpenAI.
This morning, 52.8% (2,925%) issues are advancing against 42.% (2,348) in decline. Eight S&P 500 sectors are advancing.
Speaking of turnarounds, it's also been a better-than-expected morning for metals. There was a point last night where futures were pointing towards another steep day of declines. However, continuous contracts for gold (+0.18% to $4,753.80) and silver (+2.13% to $80.205) have sagged markedly from recent highs, both are up this morning.
The same cannot be said of Bitcoin (-0.10% over the last 24 hours), which is down nearly 12% over the last seven days. Ethereum, the second most-valuable cryptocurrency by market cap, is off more than 20% over the last week. The two are trading at $77,691.52 and $2,325.94. Those results are having a big impact on publicly-traded crypto equities and treasury businesses.
That said, let's take a look at what is going on this morning:
