This country test-fires cruise missiles ahead of Donald Trump’s visit – good friend to Russia, not China, it is…
North Korea test-fired sea-to-surface strategic cruise missiles ahead of the visit of US President Donald Trump to South Korea.
Seoul: Ahead of United States President Doland Trump’s visit to South Korea, North Korea, which is a close ally of Russia, test-fired sea-to-ship strategic cruise missiles in the Yellow Sea on Wednesday. Trump is scheduled to visit South Korea to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, South Korean news agency Yonhap reported.
A report by Yonhap, Citing the Korean Central news Agency (KCNA), stated that Pyongyang test-fired a cruise missile, which was improved for ship-based launches, vertically. The missile flew for more than 7,800 seconds on the preset route above the Yellow Sea and hit its target.
Why Did Kim Jong Un Not Oversee the Test Firing?
The report further stated that North Korea’s supreme leader Kim Jong Un didn’t oversee the cruise missile’s test firing. According to Pak Jong-chon, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea, his country has achieved a significant milestone in nuclear forces on a “practical basis.”
“It is an extension of exercising the war deterrent and an act of exercising it more responsibly to continuously test the reliability of different strategic offensive means and impress their abilities upon the enemies,” Pak said.
He emphasised the importance of continuously enhancing North Korea’s military capabilities.
According to the report, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) stated that it detected a North Korean cruise missile launch at 3 PM, further noting that the development was inspected by South Korean and US intelligence authorities.
Doland Trump’s South Korea Visit
Notably, North Korea launched the cruise missile ahead of Trump’s visit to South Korea. The country is also silent about the US President’s offer for talks. Yonhap mentioned that the missile test fire came as Trump expressed his wish to meet Kim Jong-un during his visit to South fKorea rom October 29-20.
