New Delhi: Lakhs of devotees from across the country are travelling to Vrindavan to usher in the New Year. Every year, devotees of Thakur Banke Bihari visit this holy city with the desire to seek His darshan. Due to the massive influx of devotees, hotels and guesthouses in the city have been completely booked, prompting homestay operators to also increase room rates.
Devotees arriving without prior bookings are being forced to wander in search of accommodation. Taking advantage of the situation, people offering homestay facilities have also raised rents. Rooms that normally cost Rs 800 to Rs 1,000 per night are now being charged at Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000.

Vivek, a youth facilitating homestay bookings near Prem Mandir, said that room rates have already increased by Rs 500 to Rs 800 since Christmas. There is a likelihood of a further hike in rents from December 30 to January 1.
