Vijay Varma recalls how Aamir Khan’s daughter Ira helped him battle severe depression during lockdown, says ‘I couldn’t move…’

Depression is something that can easily throw someone’s life into chaos. Be it a common man or a film superstar, the struggle to come out of depression is real. Something similar happened with actor Vijay Varma. In a recent conversation with Rhea Chakraborty on her podcast, Varma opened up about battling severe depression and anxiety in 2020 during the lockdown. He also revealed how he fought his depression and what helped him overcome it.

Vijay Varma Fought Depression

Vijay revealed, “I was all alone in an apartment in Mumbai. Luckily, I had a small terrace — I could see the sky, be with the elements. Otherwise, I would’ve gone mad. Actually, I did. What happened to me is that pause, that constant running after work — the byproduct is that you become so lonely. I felt very lonely, very afraid, and I was like, why can’t I move from my couch for four days? What’s going on?”

Ira Khan Became a Source of Support

In the same conversation, Vijay revealed it was Aamir Khan’s daughter Ira who turned out to be a huge support for him. He also mentioned actor Gulshan Devaiah, who stood by him during those days.

Vijay said, “Ira was assisting on Dahaad, and we had all become good friends during the shoot. We’d video call each other on Zoom, have dinners — that was our circle. But I kept deteriorating. She was the first to point out, ‘Vijay, I think you need to start moving a little bit.’ She would do Zoom workouts and make me work out. Eventually, I did speak to a therapist on Zoom, and I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety… My therapist even suggested medication. I told her, ‘Let me try managing for now.’”

Vijay revealed that yoga played a crucial role in helping him overcome his depression. He recalled doing surya namaskars, which helped him during those difficult days.

On the professional front, Vijay was last seen in IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack and Murder Mubarak. His next release, Gustaakh Ishq, is scheduled to hit theatres on November 28.
