Virat Kohli scores 50th ODI ton, breaks Sachin Tendulkar's two world records

Virat Kohli on Wednesday broke the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most ODI centuries, when he scored a ton during India’s 2023 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand in Mumbai.

Kohli now has 50 ODI hundreds, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 49 centuries in this format.

With 701 runs, Kohli now has most runs in a batter during a single edition of the ODI World Cup.

Kohli came into bat in the ninth over following the dismissal of Rohit Sharma. Kohli got to his half-century off 59 deliveries, hitting four fours in the process. The former India skipper was involved in a 93-run stand for the second wicket with Shubman Gill before the latter retired hurt. He then forged a century-run stand with Shreyas Iyer, which was unbeaten at 133 runs at the time of writing this report.

This was Kohli’s third century of the 2023 World Cup.
