WhatsApp status is about to change forever-AI editing tools are coming
WhatsApp is testing AI-powered editing tools for Status updates, allowing users to transform photos, apply creative styles, remove objects, and animate images directly within the app.
WhatsApp, the world’s most popular messaging app, is currently trialing advanced AI image-editing features for Status updates. Users can edit, transform, and customize images directly in WhatsApp with AI tools that are currently being tested. The update is part of Meta’s wider efforts to integrate its AI tools into core features of its platforms.
WhatsApp adds powerful AI image editing tools for status updates
WhatsApp is currently testing a set of generative AI image-editing tools that can be used from within the Status editor. WhatsApp beta testers have discovered a set of tools from Meta AI in the latest version of the app for iOS and Android devices.
AI tools make it easy for WhatsApp users to customize their photos before setting them as Status updates. Users can transform and edit photos with the help of Meta’s AI tools, without needing to download other image-editing apps.
Users can apply a range of styles to their photos using the AI tools, from Anime to comic book, 3D, painting, clay, and video game-style art. Images can also be edited to enhance or remove elements, using short prompts to instruct the AI to make the necessary changes.
AI-powered effects let users edit and enhance photos on WhatsApp
The AI image-editing tools appear as “Imagine” features on WhatsApp. Once a user has added an image to their Status update, they can access the “Imagine” options on the editing screen. The new section appears alongside other image-editing options, including rotation, frame, sticker, and text options.
AI Style Effects, can be found in a row of tiles that highlight the options available. Users can select a style from the list and the app will update to show the image in the new style. The AI will then reinterpret the photo in the selected style and present a new image.
AI tools for photo editing will also enable users to customize the backgrounds of photos. Users can now quickly and easily set the scene to reflect their mood by simply entering a prompt in a text box. Users can also animate still photos with the help of AI tools and create motion images from static photos.
Meta Aims to extend its Generative AI Tools to its Platforms
The new AI-powered image editing features are part of Meta’s efforts to integrate its generative AI tools into its core products. Meta launched a range of AI-powered tools for image and text earlier this year, with new AI tools currently being added to WhatsApp and Instagram. In addition to its generative AI models, Meta is also working on integrating AI capabilities to assist creators across its apps.
Meta’s new AI image editing tools were released to testers in WhatsApp beta for both Android and iOS devices. The new features are currently being rolled out gradually to testers. The release to wider audiences could happen soon. A wider release of the AI-powered editing tools to the public is expected, though no official timeline has been announced.
