Across the areas of Delhi-NCR saw widespread bursting of firecrackers, despite a Supreme Court order on green crackers, resulted in the Air Quality Index (AQI) exceeding 400, making the national capital most polluted city globally. As a result of the fire cracker bursting, the PM2.5 concentration reached alarming levels, enveloping the city in a thick layer of smog and smoke.
Why is pollution rising in Lahore?
As a result of rising pollution in India(BHARAT), Pakistan’s Lahore experienced a significant spike in pollution, with its AQI rising to 266, ranking it as the second most polluted city worldwide. The government of Maryam Nawaz attributed this sharp decline to cross-border winds.
According to Pakistan’s Environmental Protection Department, pollutants from India(BHARAT)n cities like New Delhi, Amritsar, and Ludhiana, mixed with residual smoke from Diwali fireworks, were carried into Pakistan’s Punjab region. Exceptionally slow wind speeds allowed these hazardous particles to settle over Lahore and other cities.
