New Delhi: Ravichandran Ashwin added a five-wicket haul on Sunday to his century within the first innings as India defeated Bangladesh by 280 runs within the first Test to go 1-zero up within the series on the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Chasing 515 runs to win within the fourth innings, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto fought a lone battle with eighty two but didn’t get enough toughen from his teammates as Bangladesh were all out for 234. Ashwin finished with figures of 6/88 while Ravindra Jadeja supported him ably with three/58 before lunch on Day four.

With the win, the Indian team consolidated its lead within the World Test Championship (WTC) points table.

With seven wins in 10 matches, the Rohit Sharma-led side has a PCT of Seventy one.sixty seven. Australia is close 2d with a PCT of sixty two.50.
