Radhika Apte makes shocking revelations about her experience on Shahid Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt’s Vaah Life Ho Toh Aisi, saying she was treated horribly on set.
Bollywood actress Radhika Apte recently completed 20 years in the film industry, but not all memories from her early days are pleasant. In a candid interview, the actress spoke openly about her big-screen debut in Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi! and revealed why she prefers to forget the experience. While the film helped her enter Bollywood, the treatment she received behind the scenes left a lasting impact.
What did Radhika Apte reveal?
Opening up about the experience, Radhika shared that the producers of the film, Sangeetha Ahir, treated her and her family very poorly. She revealed that she was neither paid nor provided accommodation during the shoot. When her mother asked for a formal contract, the response shocked her.
She said, “The awful producers didn’t put me up, didn’t pay me. When my mother and I asked them to sign a contract, they said, ‘Arey, even Urmila Matondkar didn’t sign a contract’. I don’t know if she signed or not, but they treated us horribly. Mahesh Manjrekar was a great guy. That’s why I like to forget my film because the production was awful! And I say it out loud.”
How did Radhika Apte get the opportunity?
Despite the unpleasant experience, Radhika acknowledged the director, Mahesh Manjrekar for giving her the opportunity. She revealed that he noticed her performance in a stage play titled Brain Surgeon, where she had participated in a state-level competition. According to Radhika, Mahesh Manjrekar was working on three films at that time. While he felt she was too young for the other two projects, he believed she would be suitable for Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi! and decided to cast her in a small role.
About Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi!
Released in 2005, Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi! starred Shahid Kapoor as Aditya, a kind-hearted man who gets a chance to return to Earth as a ghost for one week after his death. Sanjay Dutt played a modern version of Yamraj. The film was India(BHARAT)’s first movie shot in High Definition and later gained cult popularity. However, it failed at the box office, earning around Rs 5.84 crore nett in India(BHARAT) and Rs 9.03 crore worldwide against a budget of approximately Rs 13 crore. The film also featured Amrita Rao, Arshad Warsi, Prem Chopra, Suhasini Mulay, Sharat Saxena, Mohnish Bahl, Radhika Apte, Ishaan Khatter, and Shweta Basu Prasad in pivotal roles.
