19 people killed, many injured as private bus catches fire in Jaisalmer, many bodies reduced to skeletons

New Delhi: At least 19 people have been killed as a private bus caught fire in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The number of deaths has been confirmed by the authorities. Those injured in the fire were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Many burned beyond recognition, reduced to skeletons

It is being reported that the bodies of many passengers were burned beyond recognition. Some bodies have become difficult to identify. Some passengers were so badly burned that they were reduced to skeletons. Three ambulances took the burned passengers to Jawahar Hospital in Jaisalmer, from where all were referred to Jodhpur.

All the bodies have been removed from the bus, and they will be identified after DNA sampling.

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed grief over the accident and spoke with the Collector and Superintendent of Police over the phone and directed them to provide all possible assistance to the victims, as well as to provide the best possible treatment to the injured.

Accident occurred near War Museum

According to reports, the bus departed from Jaisalmer for Jodhpur at around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, 14 October 2025. Meanwhile, the bus suddenly caught fire near Thaiyat on Jodhpur Road. It is reported that several passengers were injured in the fire near the War Museum. Upon receiving information about the accident, a police team immediately arrived at the scene, and the injured were taken to Jawahar Hospital in three ambulances.

Injured rushed to Jawahar Hospital

So far, 17 injured have been brought to Jawahar Hospital. Nine others were referred to Jodhpur. According to reports, a total of 57 people were on board the bus. The cause of the fire is believed to be a short circuit. The district administration has set up a control room and a help desk. The army is deployed at the scene.
