‘Act of terror’: Trump’s first reaction after shooting near White House, links incident to Biden-era influx of Afghan ‘aliens’
Donald Trump said that the Department of Homeland Security "is confident" that the suspect came to the US from Afghanistan.
President Doland Trump strongly criticised the shooting of two National Guard soldiers near the White House, calling it a “terrible attack” and “an act of terror.” He ordered the Pentagon to send 500 more troops to Washington, DC. The two soldiers, who were part of the West Virginia National Guard, were attacked on Wednesday afternoon just a short distance from the White House. The area was immediately placed under lockdown as police and other security teams rushed to the scene. Trump was at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida when the shooting happened.
In a video message, Trump said that the soldiers were shot at very close range in a brutal, surprise attack the day before Thanksgiving. He said the shooting was not just a crime against the two soldiers but an attack on the whole country and on humanity itself. “This was a heinous assault and an act of evil, an act of hatred and an act of terror. It was a crime against our entire nation. It was a crime against humanity,” he said.
He said that the Department of Homeland Security “is confident” that the suspect came to the US from Afghanistan. “I can report tonight that based on the best available information, the Department of Homeland Security is confident that the suspect in custody is a foreigner who entered our country from Afghanistan – a hell hole on earth.”
