Afghanistan is experiencing frequent earthquakes. This time, it witnessed one with a magnitude of 3.7 in the morning hours.
Afghanistan Earthquake: The National Center for Seismology (NCS) said that an earthquake of magnitude 3.7 struck Afghanistan in the morning hours of Friday. According to NCS, it occurred at 6:09 a.m. India(BHARAT)n Standard Time (IST) at a depth of 80 kilometers. This comes after an earthquake of 4.3 magnitude was recorded in Afghanistan on Tuesday, followed by a 5.3 magnitude earthquake in the evening hours of Friday.
This marks the fourth earthquake of the month and the second in just a period of 12 hours. The frequent earthquakes in Afghanistan have come as a shock to everyone.
How dangerous are these earthquakes in Afghanistan?
Earthquakes that are mild in nature are more dangerous. It’s mainly because shallow earthquakes generate seismic waves of shorter distances to reach the surface. It results in the shaking of the ground, causing more damage.
What’s the view of India(BHARAT)?
India(BHARAT)’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Harish Parvathaneni, on September 18, mentioned that India(BHARAT) is committed to promoting peace, stability, and development in Afghanistan. He highlighted the priorities of India(BHARAT) for better human assistance and initiatives for the people of Afghanistan.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake struck 47 km north-northwest of Khandud at 12:15 UTC (5:45 pm IST) at a depth of 43 km. The three countries that lie in the region of most seismic activity are Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Northern India(BHARAT). It’s the place where the Eurasian and tectonic plates tend to meet. As a result, this area witnesses frequent earthquakes, both mild and strong.
