Dry days will be observed in 12 MCD wards in Delhi in wake of bypolls. All liquor stores in these areas will remain closed.
Liquor shops will remain closed in 12 MCD wards where bypolls for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) are scheduled to be held on November 30. According to an official order issued by the Delhi excise department, liquor stores in these areas will remain shuttered around voting and counting days.
“In pursuance of the Delhi Excise Rules, 2010, dry days will be observed in the 12 wards where bypolls are to be held,” the order stated, adding that ahead of voting, liquors stores in these wards will close at 5.30 pm on November 28, and will open at 5.30 pm after voting concludes at 5:30 pm on voting day (November 30).
The liquor shops in the 12 wards where MCD bypolls are scheduled, will also remain closed on the counting day, on December 3, it said.
Which areas will observe dry days on poll days?
According to the order, MCD bypolls are being held in the following areas, where liquor ban will be enforced on the above mentioned dates;
- Mundka
- Shalimar Bagh-B
- Ashok Vihar
- Chandni Chowk
- Chandni Mahal
- Dwarka-B
- Dichaon Kalan
- Naraina
- Sangam Vihar-A
- Dakshin Puri
- Greater Kailash
- Vinod Nagar
Delhi MCD Bypolls 2025
According to the State Election Commission (SEC), the Delhi Assembly Bypolls 2025 will be held on November 30, while votes will be counted on December 3 and results declared on the same day.
Among the 12 MCD wards were bypolls are schedule, six are in the general category, five are reserved for women, and one for Scheduled Castes. The MCD by election was mandated after nine BJP and three AAP councillors were elected MPs or MLAs earlier this year.
Earlier this month, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva released the party’s candidate list, and expressed confidence of securing a “one-sided” victory in the bypolls.
