Bad news for air travelers as IndiGo cancels 59 flights across India due to…; 27 flights cancelled at Delhi airport after…

IndiGo flight cancellations: IndiGo, India(BHARAT)’s largest domestic carrier, which suffered a major operational crisis resulting in mass flight cancellations earlier this month, cancelled 59 flights on Thursday due to unspecified reasons, even as 27 flights were cancelled at the Delhi Airport due to low visibility caused by dense fog.

Why IndiGo cancelled flights?

According to data available on IndiGo’s official website, the airline cancelled 59 flights in its domestic network on Thursday, and has announced cancellations of another 28 flights for Friday.

However, the airline has not specified any reason for these cancellations, triggering fears among travelers about another potential crisis leading to mass disruptions.

At the start of December, IndiGo faced operational disruptions for more than one week after the DGCA’s updated crew rostering rule came into effect allowing increased rest periods for pilots and other staff, resulting in hundreds of flight cancellations and delays.

Flights cancelled at Delhi Airport due to fog

Meanwhile, as many as 27 flights were cancelled and many more delayed at Delhi Airport due to dense fog and subsequent drop in visibility, PTI reported, citing official sources. “As of now, 27 flights are cancelled — 16 departures and 11 arrivals — at Delhi Airport due to dense fog and low visibility,” the source was quoted as saying.

Delhi airport operator, DIAL, issued a passenger advisory on Thursday morning stating that “flight operations are currently under CAT-III conditions, which may lead to delays or disruptions” due to dense fog which engulfed the national capital.

CAT-III refers to a type of instrument landing system (ILS) approach that allows aircraft to land in conditions of very low visibility, such as fog, rain or snow, with a runway visual range (RVR) of 50-200 meters. Airlines are required to deploy CAT-III trained pilots as well as a CAT-compliant aircraft fleet to conduct flight operations under low visibility.
