Bangladesh violence LIVE: Unrest takes over Dhaka after Osman Hadi’s death, stones hurled at Indian mission in Chattogram, Awami League office torched

Bangladesh violence live updates: Bangladesh saw fresh violence and protests overnight after the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, a well-known youth leader of the country’s 2024 pro-democracy movement. Hadi died in a hospital in Singapore after being shot in an attack last week. As news of his death spread, thousands of people came out on the streets late Thursday and early Friday. Most protests were seen in Dhaka, but demonstrations also broke out in other parts of the country.

Protesters demanded justice for Hadi and accused powerful groups of being behind the attack. Some angry crowds tried to move toward India(BHARAT)n diplomatic buildings and damaged properties linked to the former ruling Awami League. In the southwestern city of Rajshahi, protesters attempted to march to the office of an India(BHARAT)n diplomat, but police blocked them. Videos shared online showed stone-pelting near the India(BHARAT)n assistant high commission.

In the capital, hundreds of students and citizens gathered at Shahbagh, close to Dhaka University. They raised slogans in Hadi’s name and called him a symbol of the people’s struggle. A student group called Jatiya Chhatra Shakti held a mourning march inside the university campus and later joined the Shahbagh protest.

The National Citizen Party, which emerged from the Students Against Discrimination group that led last year’s violent protests, also joined the demonstrations. Its members raised anti-India(BHARAT) slogans and claimed that Hadi’s attackers escaped to India(BHARAT) after the shooting. They urged the interim government to shut down the India(BHARAT)n high commission until the suspects are brought back.
