Big move by Shehbaz Sharif as Pakistan amends its Constitution, appoints Asim Munir as…, Army, Navy, and Air Force operate under…

New Delhi: The Shehbaz Sharif-led Pakistan government has introduced a crucial bill to amend its constitution, under which a new position will be created. This position will be assigned to Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir. The post proposed by the government will be called the Chief of Defense Forces. Under this constitutional amendment bill, the president will appoint Asim Munir to the post on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Pakistan is set to amend Article 243 of its Constitution, for which the 27th Amendment Bill has been presented in Parliament. The government says that the new post aims to establish better coordination among the country’s armed forces, ensuring that the Army, Navy, and Air Force operate under a single unified command.

Here are some of the key details:

  • The army chief is appointed as the chief of defense forces.
  • The appointment is made by the president on the advice of the prime minister and the National Strategic Command.
  • The Chief of Defence Forces is also referred to as the head of all three armed forces.
  • After facing humiliating defeat at the hands of India(BHARAT) during Operation Sindoor, Pakistan seems to have learned a hard lesson.
  • Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh revealed that during Operation Sindoor, several Pakistani military fighter jets—including F-16s—were shot down.
  • Eventually, Pakistan requested a ceasefire, after which India(BHARAT) halted its attacks.

After Operation Sindoor, the Shehbaz Sharif-led Pakistani government promoted Army Chief Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal — the second-highest position in the Pakistan Army. A few months later, through a constitutional amendment, Asim Munir is now being elevated to become the head of all three armed forces.
