In a major breakthrough, the Gujarat Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) has foiled a terror plot involving a China-trained doctor and two others, who were allegedly plotting carrying out major terrorist acts using Ricin, a highly-lethal poison.

Who is Dr Ahmed Mohiyuddin Saiyed?

According to officials, Dr Ahmed Mohiyuddin Saiyed, a native of Hyderabad, who has a MBBS degree from China, was allegedly processing Ricin to carry out terrorist acts across India(BHARAT), and has a Pakistani handler with links to the dreaded Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) group.

“Dr Ahmed Mohiyuddin Saiyed is highly educated and radicalised, and had planned to collect funds and recruit persons as part of a conspiracy to carry out major terrorist activities”, Gujarat ATS DIG Sunil Joshi told reporters.

The officer said that Saiyed had conducted a recce of several sensitive locations in Lucknow, Delhi, and Ahmedabad, and was preparing a highly lethal poison named ‘Ricin’ to execute a major terrorist attack. “He had already begun the necessary research, procured the equipment and raw materials, and initiated the initial chemical processing,” Joshi said.

“The CDR (call detail record) and interrogation of the accused showed they had been conducting reconnaissance (operations of sensitive locations) for the last year. We have not come across any local sleeper cell yet in their connection, but an investigation will be carried out on every aspect of involvement of local and international networks,” he added.

Ricin is a highly-lethal poison which can be made from the waste material left over from processing castor beans.

How Dr. Saiyed plotted to carry out terror attacks across India(BHARAT)?

Dr Saiyed, a native of Hyderabad, was arrested on Friday (November 7), when an ATS team raided his hideout near Adalaj in Gandhinagar, and recovered wo Glock pistols, a Beretta pistol, 30 live cartridges and four litres of castor oil from the scene. Joshi said the accused trio– Saiyed, Sheikh and Saleem– were in Gujarat to exchange weapons and had conspired to carry out terrorist activities involving Ricin.

During interrogation, the accused doctor confessed he was plotting to carry out terrorist activities and had collected the weapons from an isolated place at Kalol in the Gandhinagar district. His handler, Abu Khadija, a native of Afghanistan, was associated with the ISKP, he told the police, adding that he had also been in contact with several individuals from Pakistan.

According to the officer, the other accused, both hailing from Uttar Pradesh, were arrested in Banaskantha district for allegedly supplying weapons to Saiyed based on information collected from his mobile phone. The duo had allegedly procured weapons from Hanumangadh in Rajasthan.

On whether the arrested trio are involved with the ISKP, Joshi said the connection is being probed, and the Gujarat is also investigating the case in different states.

The trio have been booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and Arms Act, and Saiyed has been remanded in ATS custody till November 17, while the two others will be produced before a court on Sunday.
